Will the EU AI Act have any impact on the translations you book?

The EU AI Act, which regulates development and use of AI systems by companies, went into force in 2024. It was rolled out progressively during the years that followed. For many businesses, including in the language and translation industry, the provisions apply from 2 August 2026.

If you book a translation, this mainly affects your right to greater transparency on how it will be produced. If AI tools are used to generate or edit a text, this must be clearly communicated. There is also an increased focus on information security and privacy protection.

The ways in which the AI Act’s provisions will be put into practice are still evolving – at both the industry level and among individual providers. This means that processes and routines may continue to develop in the near future.
