What is proofreading?
Proofreading is a review of a text at the most basic level to correct things like spelling, grammar and consistency. In general, all texts are improved if proofread by a person other than the author, because it is easy for the writer to suffer from “text blindness”. This is when the brain reads and interprets the text as the writer intended it to be – rather than as it actually is – making it easy to miss errors and typos. Proofreading can be particularly important if you are writing in a language other than your own.
